This item

consists of one group of eight decorative ceramic kitchen table accessories celebrating Ol' Bessie. Three are realistic, representing the Guernsey and Holstein families. The others are creatively stylized charmers. There are three different creamers that pour out of Bessie's mouth. One of those has a companion sugar bowl, recognizable by the hole under the removable head to accommodate a spoon. This pair also has a daisy on each head, made of linen cloth. The sugar is marked Made In Japan. The creamer has some trace of what is certainly the same mark. The charming little salt & pepper shakers are marked Japan. Their corks are intact and they appear unused. Actually, I don't think any of the eight were used. The comic Bessie is an ashtray or pipe rest but no hint of nastiness is evident. Oh, the brown cow in the pink dress...maybe that is a tea bag rest? There you have it...a nice family of vintage farm animals from mid-century - 1940's to 1950's.
