Original Narrative:
-
One
of the beautiful pictures by Mr. Etty. It is one of great beauty. The
figure of cupid is charmingly designed, with the expression of arch
playfulness in his countenance, that unmistakably indicates his
mission. On the wings are a few feathers of emerald green, orange and
purple. The sky is bright blue, graduating toward the horizon into red
against which the purple hills stand in bold relief. The whole is
brilliant mass of color [in the poriginal painting]. A lady in the
costume of our day folding in her arms the "winged boy."
