“Eulalie” was Mary Eulalie Fee Shannon (1824-1855), married newspaper editor John Shannon in 1854 and moved to Auburn, California. Her poems were published in her husband’s newspaper, Believed to be the first published California woman poet. Her first book of poetry was Buds, Birds, Blossoms and Leaves, published in Cincinnati in 1854. Eulalie died in childbirth on Dec. 26, 1854.
