WOW ... this is an absolute fantastic Antique French 19th Century gilt gesso pier mirror which is very impressive.
I decided the clean the mirror the other day and when I was at the top of it I noticed a small paper SHIPPERS label stuck to the mirror surface..it has been there since I bought the mirror but I hadn't taken much notice of it to be honest.
The label is part printed out and part hand written filled in with various details such as a ref number, client name and item number.
The label is from GANDER & WHITE SHIPPING LTD of 21 Lillie Road London with it being item number #31 and the Clients name is AL JOHARA.
So I thought thats interesting .. I looked into Gander & White Shipping Ltd to see they are a serious shipping company dealing with art dealers, private collectors and museums. Top end items though not any old tat.
I then looked at Al Johara ...this is even more interesting but I couldn't find a company with that name, I can find people named Al Johara and it is not for me to connect any of them to this very IMPRESSIVE pier mirror but you may well know of someone of that name that once owned the mirror. It would certainly suit a house belonging to someone with that name and high status connections in Saudi Arabia.
Anyway the client Al Johara certainly had good taste there is no doubt about that and they clearly used the best shipper to have it moved and sent somewhere else.
I have worked out the provenance of auctions too Dreweatts October 2019 and before that Christies London October 1993/4. I am sure some of you will be able to find more info out by digging a little deeper.....it is very interesting anyway.
It would suit a palace - chateau - grand country house as long as you had a large enough door and ceiling to get it into.
It is 10 foot 2 inch tall overall x 5 foot 9 inch wide overall x 4 inch deep...and very heavy.
The actual mirror is 105 inch tall x 55 inch wide.
It has good strong steel plates with hooks on the top for attachment at the rear.
It has a really fabulous design with the overhanging arched top which is in a shield sort of shape and central plain oval with the foliage leaf like design around it. With more leaves and flowers of 3 dimensional design sticking out coming down the sides. Fancy headed columns at both sides.
There is some gilt gesso losses on the design but it is in overall fantastic condition.
If you have the right home for this it will look tremendous when its in situ.
Ideal for the antique furnishers too or anyone into mirrors is going to love it.

Anyone into such a mirror is likely to have items as large and as delicate as this delivered to them so you can make your own arrangements on shipping - courier service if you like as the prices I have on the listing can vary from company to company.
I have the option for you to COLLECT the mirror from me ..if you do that I require a BACS - IBAN payment for it and then you can take it away. Cash on Collection is another option if you turn up with a shipping company and take it away that day. A sterling cheque payment would have to clear first as well, thank you.
Please also be aware it is very heavy and will need at least 6 men to lift it comfortably and pack well in the shipping container or wagon for its journey to you.
Please do not be naive and send a "one man & a tranny van" outfit to collect it !!
Last but not least....ring for an appointment to view it and remember you are only buying the 10 foot 2 inch tall mirror.. nothing else you see in the photograph is with it.
