the first edition printed 98 years ago, not a modern reprint or more late re-edition. Fine condition, clean pages block in excellent condition,

slight dirt and abrasions of the cover, rounded corners on the cover, tear along the spine and along the edges of the cover,

traces of time (see pictures).

The 1922 poem collection “Hong-Gong” is an imitation of the Japanese style of the “tank”, expressing nostalgia for the home and

admiration for nature. Dedicated to the Latvian unknown soldier in the Far East. The book includes 3 parts: - Japanese, - Asian pale, - Home!

The compass of the activities of Professor Arved Schvabe (1888 - 1959) is quite wide: the famous historian who founded the Institute

of History of Latvia in 1936, compiler of the Latvian Encyclopedia, he also wrote about folklore, literary criticism, prepared biographical

reviews (essays), poet, prose writer, publicist and translator, mainly from Chinese and Japanese. Interest in Japanese and Chinese languages

and literature arose during work at the post office in Manchuria (modern China) during the First World War. In 1921, shortly after the proclamation

of independent Latvia, Schvabe published the Latvian translation “Japanu Lirika” (Japanese Lyrics), becoming the first person in the history

of Latvia to introduce the Japanese tank and haiku. In 1922, Hong Gong followed, a collection of its own Japanese tanks, which included 28 tanks

with motifs from nature and the homeland. Tanka (short poem) is a classic format of Japanese poetry. After this publication, there was a long break

in the presentation of Japanese poetry in Latvian literature until the 1980s, when the tank reappeared in the works of many Latvian poets.

Schvabe's book still remains the only and consistent book of tanks in Latvian poetry. The publication can also be considered a great example

of harmonious combination the work of the poet and artist is the collaboration of Sigismunds Vidbergs with Arved Schvabe.

The book includes fifteen full-page drawings Indian ink, among them 4 erotic, urban motifs, natural and urban landscapes in the Japanese style.

Sigismunds Vidbergs (10 May 1890 - 31 January 1970) was a Latvian graphic artist and painter.

Born in Jelgava. He was the "Riga Artists' Group member, workshop" Baltars "artist. Exhibitions already begun to participate in

the school years in Riga, as well as in Petrograd in 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916. Being in Petrograd, he influenced by Russian magazine

"Mir Iskusstva" and "Satirikon" group as a whole, but especially of the Russian graphic artist S. Čehoņina. The early stages of the artist's

creative life felt a strong English OBRI Bīrdslija graphic artist (1872-1898) impact. Returning Latvian, organizing its first post-war solo

Latvian Telegraph Agency art salon, which was in Riga, Barona 4, 1925 at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris,

won the gold medal for the workshop "Baltars" crockery paintings. In 1926 he came out book "Erotica" with 24 pictures provided

an overview of the artist's creative work-from 1917. His second major solo exhibition with 145 works of Sigismund Vidbergs arrange

Romanovska art salon in 1926. Celebrating 20 years of operation of the schedule, in 1928 organized a jubilee personal exhibitions in Riga

and Jelgava. Exile, the result of the post-war Esslingen best known work cycle "pain pathway." He worked at the book and applied graphics,

signs a book and magazine covers, illustrations, organisation and publishing house signs, chapter headings, bookmarks, vignette,

membership cards, postage stamps, addresses, posters. It created the scenery of Ludwig Minkus's ballet "Don Quixote" and costumes

L. Minkus ballet "Don Quixote" and Adol Charles Adam's ballet "Giselle".

Компас деятельности профессора Арведа Швабе (1888-1959) достаточно широк: известный историк, основавший Институт истории Латвии в 1936 году,
составитель Латвийской энциклопедии, также он писал о фольклоре, литературной критике, готовил биографические обзоры (очерки), поэт, прозаист,
публицист и переводчик, в основном с китайского и японского языков. Интерес к японскому и китайскому языкам и литературе возник во время работы
в почтовом отделении в Маньчжурии (современный Китай) во время Первой Мировой войны. В 1921 году, вскоре после провозглашения независимой Латвии,
Швабе опубликовал латышский перевод «Japanu Lirika» (Японская поэзия), став первым человеком в истории Латвии, представившим японскую танку и хайку.
В 1922 году последовал «Гонг Гонг", коллекция его собственной японской танки, в которую входят 28 танки с мотивами природы и родины.
Танка (короткое стихотворение) - это классический формат японской поэзии. После этого издания был долгой перерыв в представлении японской поэзии

индийскими чернилами, среди них 4 эротических, городские мотивы, природные и городские пейзажи в японском стиле.

Сигизмунд Видберг (1890 - 1970) - самый заметный представитель графического искусства Art-Deco, один из самых оригинальных латвийских
художников 20-го века, чье творческое наследие отличается своей универсальностью. Он создал в области станковой и прикладной графики,
росписи фарфора, книжных и журнальных иллюстраций и коммерческих рисунков. В его работах доминирует техника рисования тушью.
Художник затрагивал широкий круг тем: исторические и современные мотивы,городская и сельская жизнь, религиозные сцены, портреты,
исследования архитектуры и природы. Тем не менее, Видбергс является самым известным в общей панораме Латвийское искусство за его
элегантную интерпретацию эротических мотивов, сохраняющее классическое чувство меры даже при решении очень рискованных тем.
