This is a Bonnet Coif cap. It is a WHITE cotton.  This style was worn by all classes in England, Scotland and the Colonies from the Middle Ages to the 17th and into the early 18th Century.  It's made of cotton and has ties under the chin as was traditional.  The coif was worn under hoods and hats of all sorts and alone.  It could function as a simple head covering, or act as a shield against oils from the hair for more elaborate head dressings. It is a simple cap similar to caps worn by the Pilgrims and very early settlers.  This is a size that will fit young girls and small women.  Check out my eBay store for more old fashioned items!
