J. Randall Stanley's

History of

Jackson County, Florida

New! Illustrated 145-Page Book

Early days in Jackson County, Florida, are explored in this reprint of History of Jackson County, by J. Randall Stanley, originally published in 1950 by the Jackson County Historical Society. The 3-color cover is printed on 80# card stock and protected with a vinyl sheet.

The book, printed on 60# opaque paper, has 145 pages. However, because we use a 2-up format on 11 x 8 1/2" paper, it contains all 281 pages of the original book.

The book includes chapters on colonial history, topography and natural wonders, early pioneers, courts and government, county seat controversy, Marianna and her early outstanding citizens, a ghost town, pioneer churches, pioneer schools, transportation, banks, post offices and newspapers, politics, an economic "who's who" of the pre-Civil War period, the Civil War with names of Confederate soldiers, John Milton's administration in the war years, the Battle of Marianna, the tragic events of the reconstruction era, election of 1876 ending carpetbagger rule, the second reconstruction, Graceville, the 20th Century, the peanut industry, and clubs and organizations.

Illustrations include: Old Ely mansion, the county court house, and a number of prominent citizens.
