Exquisite, Art Nouveau 9ct, 9k, 375 Gold Amethyst and seed pearl lavaliere, necklace Circa 1895
This
necklace is a fine example from the Art nouveau period, beautifully
made in gold with decorative edges and scrolls in the form of an
abstract heart.
Taking centre stage is a stunning oval 8.5 x 7mm
Amethyst, mounted in a collet setting, framed in a beautiful gold
surround and complimented with four tiny seed pearls.
The centre
piece is connected with two lengths of chain to a 5mm Amethyst again
connected to a split chain with barrel clasp fitting.
Complete with a matching 4.5mm Amethyst "en tremblant" drop.
Hallmarked 9ct (denotes 9carat gold) on pendant and chain

The
name Lavalier (also spelt lavalier or lavallière) derived from the name
of the Duchesse de La Vallière (1644-1710), one of the mistresses of
Louis XIV, who favoured this style of necklace.
