Major Charles Skinner Montgomery was a lineal nephew of both Gerritt Smith (Presidential Candidate & Abolitionist leader) and his wife Anna Fitzhugh Smith (Suffragette and Underground railroad operator) of Peterboro, New York. Major Montgomery was also a grandson of the founder of Rochester, New York  and was killed in action leading his regiment at the Battle of Hatchers Run , Virginia. An original pair of album pages, one with a  chestview oval photo of Major Montgomery in civilian coat, approx 1.5 x 1.2"  mounted on the empty album page,  and a second album page containing a similar mounted image of a young lady, possibly his daughter, and also containing a  pair of pleasing full view CDV images  of a handsome and pleasant woman, taken at different times in the same studio (no backmarks). The 2 pages come with the Album Portrait Index page with 90 pencil inscribed notations including identities for Charles and Daisy. These photos were from a family album of Gerrit Smith Backus, also a nephew of Gerrit Smith (.  Backus, a  notable engineer, designed the Watervliet/ Troy Canal lock house, and the world famous Trans Andes Railroad in  Peru.  The group
