Welcome to  Antiques & Moore!.

This listing is for a group of nine (9) rare Spode Felspar porcelain plates, pattern #4033, c. 1820. The plates are decorated with assorted hand painted floral bouquets in the center on a white ground and are embellished with 24 K gilt decoration. The outer border has a molded rope shape with gilded, scalloped rim. Plate is marked with the Spode Felspar Porcelain trademark stamp used from 1815-1830. Also on the bottom is the original price sticker from time of purchase with each plate individually priced at $325.00.

Measure 1" high and 9" in diameter. Combined weight is 9 pounds.

These nice antique plates are in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws other than very minor wear to some of the gilding (especially around the rim area) and a few minor surface scratches from normal wear. Overall, the plates appear to have seldom been used.

Background: This #4033 pattern service was used by the original Spode family themselves and is now in the Victoria & Albert Museum donated by the Spode descendants. The pattern would have been very expensive to produce and only the very wealthy of the period could have afforded to purchase it. Pam Wooliscroft, former Curator of the Spode Museum has documented this information in the Spode history.
