Here are two matching pieces from a Victorian era vanity set, consisting of a French cut leaded crystal oval perfume or cologne bottle with 950 silver cap and collar, and 950 silver lidded tall oval cotton ball or Q-tip jar. The perfume measures 4-1/2 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and is 1-5/8 inches deep. The jar measures 3-1/8 inches, tall, 2-7/8 inches wide and 2-1/8 inches deep. The perfume bottle has a small glass stopper underneath the silver cap, and the cap and collar are threaded to screw on. There are some tiny nicks and flakes on the jar, especially around the edges of the bottom (pictured). The lid for the jar has four or five shallow dents in it (pictured). No chips in the bottle but there are a few tiny flea bite size nicks in the edges of the cap. There are scratches and scuff marks on the ground and polished bottoms of both pieces, which is exactly what you want to see on antique crystal. The pieces are of very fine quality and are likely unsigned Baccarat. I've had countless lidded jars cross my path but never one with a fit so perfectly snug that it almost creates a vacuum. The crystal clear glass is expertly hand cut with long slender parallel spearheads undulating gracefully around the perimeter in their graduating lengths. The bottoms are deeply cut in a 14 pointed star. The cap, the threaded mouth of the bottle, and the lid for the jar, are all marked with the Minerva first standard hallmark, and also with partial maker's mark. It is obvious the minute you pick up the lid or cap, that they are substantial. They are both thick and rigid. Having only half the maker's mark makes it difficult to identify the silversmith, however the portion I can see looks like the spread open wings of an eagle. The crystal is not signed. Important Shipping information: We ship via priority mail and use priority mail boxes. We package in the highest grade materials including new, previously unused bubble wrap and styrofoam peanuts. We include Insurance in the shipping estimate. If we have a brown box that the item will fit into, we will ship via parcel post or first class mail if you ask. We understand that shipping costs can be expensive. We do our best to minimize the cost but if you email us before bidding or paying, we will do whatever we can to work with you.
Insurance is included in shipping cost.
Payment is expected within 3 days of close of auction. Shipments are generally made within 2 days of receipt of payment.
