For the Stereo Realist Photographer and Collector

Stereo Realist camera aperture handle/post for earlier cameras

As some of you know, I am not big on gadgets.  I only use accessories that help with my stereo photography.  This is one of them.  Without the handles you have to grab the lens barrel and try to turn it, which is not very easy.  With the handles in place it is much easier to change the aperture (lens f-stop).  The extra bonus is that the Realist looks more attractive!

These handles were made as accessories by third parties. For a while, I had commissioned a machinist to make these for me. But it's been a long time and my machinist is not around any more. I recently found a source for these. It is based on a screw, plus a sleeve.

There are two sleeves, a black and a silver. You can install anyone you want. ONLY ONE is for sale here (NOT one pair, one handle). You need a pair for both lenses of a camera, but you do not have to install this on both lenses I offer a discount if you buy a second. Look at the pictures. The first one shows what you will get. The next show show these installed on the lens using the two different sleeves. The last picture shows what tools you need: A small flat head screwdriver to remove the original screw and a small Phillips (cross head) screwdriver to install the new one. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Installing these in your Stereo Realist camera is very easy.  You do not need to remove the lens cover or lens board.  The handles replace the screws that hold the aperture "belt" in place.  These two screws are easily accessible from the side the lens.  Just remove the original screws and install the handles.

Important Note:

There are two different sizes of screws.  Earlier Realists use a smaller thread size, 0-90, while later Realists use a larger thread size, 0-80.  This pair here is for smaller thread size (earlier cameras)!

Looking at the Stereo Realists around my workshop, I was able to narrow down the transition between serial numbers 71,000 and 74,000:

THIS SET IS FOR EARLIER REALIST CAMERAS

(SN 71000 or less, this includes Ilex Realists and also Ektar 2.8 Realists - all other 2.8 cameras are later)

Please make sure that these will work for your camera. If you have a question, or are unsure, please contact me!
