Our gadolinium rods are cast, lightly polished and individually vacuum packed. Each rod measures 100mm long (3.95 inches) and is 3mm in diameter. It weighs ~ 5.52 grams. They are strongly ferromagnetic when cold and less magnetic when above 20C.

Can be used for experiments with magnetic cooling, the skinny long rod shape makes it a lot more convenient than a chunk of raw metal to experiment with placing it into and removing it from magnetic fields. The shape also would allow you to experiment with winding an electromagnet coil around the Gd Rod... just a thought...

The rod can also be bent into a different shape without too much effort.
