Figurated title page engraved by Ludovico Mattioli (1662-1747) invented by Giampietro Zanotti (1674-1765).
Condition of contents: Very good conditions. Occasional foxings.
Condition of binding: Leather coeval cover with golden title and decorations in very good conditions lightly damaged in the extremities.
First edition of the important reference work of art written by the historian of arrt and bibliographer from Bologna Pellegrino Antonio Orlandi (1660-1727) which contains around four thousand biographies of painters, sculptors and architects.
The work, considered «la più completa fonte di informazioni sugli artisti durante il XVIII secolo». (cfr. Dictionary of Art Historians, Lanitra Walker) is divided into three parts.
The artists are divided in an alphabetical order based on their name. In the first part the ancient, the second part the ancient, modern and living authors, the third part the surname and nicknames and a rich bibliography (books about art, perspective, architecture, drawing, numbers, marks, engravers ecc…)
