Welcome to Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a beautiful Nakara Wave Crest Art Glass 6" dresser box by the C. F. Monroe Co.,  c. 1900. The box has a scalloped shape and features a butterscotch colored background shading to cream with a satin finish and is decorated with a gorgeous hand enameled iris design in shades of purple with white accents and foliage in shades of green. The top and base are fitted with embossed brass bands with clasp with a tight hinge that opens and closes correctly. The base is marked with the "Nakara, C.F.M. Co." trademark stamp.

Measures 3 1/2" high and 6" in diameter. Weighs 1.12 pounds.

This lovely box is in excellent Estate with no noted flaws. The background color is not faded although there is some minor wear on a couple of the molded ribs of the scalloped design. The painted design is rich and is finely painted.

History: Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then hand decorated.  There were three types of decoration used on this opal glass - Wave Crest, Kelva and Nakara each decorated with their distinct style decoration. Both Kelva and Nakara decorated items were made in less quantity than basic Wave Crest items and are for that reason are generally more expensive and harder to find. The C. F. Monroe Company was in business from 1896-1916. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Washington Glass Co. and was purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as glass blanks to be decorated by their artists.
