This is the Battle of Lake Champlain-11 September 1814. " The Almighty Has Been Pleased To Grant Us A Signal Victory." As in the Revolutionary War, England again planned to invade the United States via Lake Champlain. While a British Army of 14,000 men ewas readied to march on Plattsburg, both British and Americans were furiously building ships for the inevitable naval engagement on the Lake. On 11 September 1814, the British attacked. Commodore Thomas Macdonough in flagship Saratoga, returned fire for an hour and a half. Skillfully turning his ship so as to bring fresh batteries to bear, Macdonough soon forced the British to strike their colors. Stripped of naval support and deprived of the Lake Highway, the invading troops fell back into Canada.
These are great photos, the dark part on the bottom is the way the light hit the photo not a dark spot.
Thanks for looking, make sure and check out my many other items and check back often for new items being listed.
