Highly Illuminated Arabic Manuscript. Signed and Dated Medium Size, Complete KORAN.  301 leaves (602 pages); size: 11.3 x 16.2 cm; 15 lines to a page, in small, clear, and handsome naskhī script, in black ink; on beige paper.  All the divisions of the Koran are marked by colorful medallions on the margins.  There are tens of such medallions.  The text is vocalized throughout. There are 2 handsomely illuminated pages in the beginning, in gold and colors.  All headings of suras are marked by gold strip.  All verses are separated by gold discs.  All pages are ruled in several lines of gold and blue.  Recitational marks are in red. 

It was written by Ahmad Ibn Muhammad, a student of the master calligrapher `Ali Ibn Mustafa, and completed it on the 30th day of Dhi al-Qi`dah of the Islamic calendar, corresponding to during the month of Dhu al-Qi`dah Rajab in the Islamic year 1306, corresponding to 12th of January 1778 AD.

The Koran is bound in morocco with a flap, in the traditional Islamic bookbinding, gild inlays, couple of which are missing.  The binding is rebacked.  In very good condition, with minor smudging except for one page (126b) where the lower part is affected but the text is still legible.  This particular page is shown in the photos above.  [K147]
