Thinking of a new, rolling billboard for your small business? Or are you a classic Binder collector and need something post-World War II to add to your fleet? Consider this 1947 International KB-2 ¾-ton panel truck.

Wearing a BBK wine and spirits import livery from suburban Chicago, this panel is dressed in Dark Green (code 10). The paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The panel body is straight, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the chrome bumpers look great, and the cargo area is clean and ready to haul your office supplies, soda boxes or other parcels.

This KB-2 rolls on BFG Silvertown tires, size 6.00-16 at every corner. Each one is mounted on dark green wheels with chrome center caps. The wheels and tires are all in very good order. This panel truck rides on a 125-inch wheelbase and a 5,200 GVWR.

Under the hood is the original numbers matching Green Diamond 214 CID inline six-cylinder engine mated to a column-mounted three-speed manual transmission. With typical undersquare bore/stroke dimensions and 6.3:1 compression, this was no high-performance engine, considering that it idles at only 350 rpm. But it was durable and easy to work on, and that's what counted.

The cab is utilitarian, with a pair of green bucket seats that are in great shape and surprisingly complete instrumentation. The headliner is in satisfactory shape and there’s a black, three-spoke steering wheel but the wipers and the temp gauge are inoperable. A glovebox matched the oblong instrument panel. The dashboard and inner door liners are all in very good order. Compared to other 1940s trucks, this symmetrical layout seemed almost sporty. Extras include an underdash heater and a seldom-seen Philco tube powered AM radio. The rear cargo area still retains its original treated plywood floor and really gives you an idea on how well cared this truck has always been.

After civilian production resumed in 1947, the K-series evolved into the KB, with only minor changes to the International KB-2 pickup models, though the barrel-shaped grille now sprouted little “wings” at the bottom.

Comparable panel vans in 1947 came from Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, GMC, Plymouth and Willys. This kind of truck is getting harder and hard to find as we move further into the 21st Century, especially classic Binders.
