THE DEFINITIVE EDITION OF OVIEDO’S HISTORY which "contains so much material not included in the original Spanish editions of his Natural Hystoria (1526) and his Historia general (1535) that it may be properly [considered] as a new work" (Howes). This work is one of the great eyewitness accounts of the Spanish settlement of the New World and appeared in full for the first time in this edition.  Leclerc called it a "publication importante et soignée", and Palau described it as an "edición magnifica en todos conceptos, tanto por el merito histórico y literario como por la presentación nítida y correcta".
