An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique silver napkin rings, 


Elkington & Co. are one of the most important names in English silver and certainly the most important in silver plate. Silver napkin rings began to rise in popularity among the European bourgeoisie from as early as 1800. The increased wealth of the middle class increased the use of such pieces throughout Europe and the Western world. 


This exceptional set of antique silver napkin rings (2) and case, each  finely detailed and executed in deep repousse work.. The surface of each is embellished with embossed scrolling leaf ornamentation, segmented with vertical textured flutes.


The decoration to each piece incorporates four convex oval, cartouches. The upper and lower rim of each ring is encircled with an applied scrolling leaf and floral decorated border.


Elkington & Co. was a Birmingham silverware company producing fine silverware and silver plate. The business was founded in 1815, by the uncle of George Richards Elkington (1801-65). Elkington & Co. are one of the most important names in English silver and certainly the most important in silver plate.
