Stride pianist Ralph Sutton made many recordings at Sunnie's Rendezvous, an Aspen, CO, restaurant operated by his wife, during the 1960s. This CD of previously unreleased material spans from four days in February 1969, although it is by no means a collection of leftover outtakes. Bob Wilber, who was also active with Sutton as a member of the World's Greatest Jazz Band at the time of the recording, is heard on both soprano sax and clarinet, along with bassist Al Hall and drummer Cliff Leeman. Both Sutton and Wilber are in top form, not only playing familiar standards as "The Sheik of Araby" and "Lover, Come Back to Me," but also less frequently played tunes such as Vic Dickenson's "I'll Try" and Zes Confrey's "Stumblin'." Like all of Ralph Sutton's live recordings at his wife's restaurant, this edition is well worth acquiring. ~ Ken Dryden
