Scottish Six Days Trial 1952.  (620)

May 1952  shot by  G H Wood  a rider from the 1930s  for  the  Bradford and District Motor Club . Most of the footage is of the bikes and riders tackling steep unsurfaced climbs  requiring considerable riding skill to avoid putting a leg down or even falling off. .

The bikes were all British made.  Many of the entrants were bare headed  although most had goggles  and often wore ex army haversacks.   Indeed  some of the entrants had time to smoke while tackling challenges.   Camp Hill and the Devils Staircase  were two of the challenging sections. Some unusual descriptions of riders included “hikers” and “left leg too short” to prevent falling off. Commentary is dubbed afterwards so there is no sound of the bikes.  Some of the riders were included in Black and White with a slow motion camera to show the technique in more detail. Colour 17 minutes.

This is DVD made from what is probably the last copy of the film which I have. Fascinating if old motor bikes are your thing.
