Leonard Henry Rochford [1896 1986] was a prominent British fighter ace of the First World War who was credited with 19 aerial victories. Rochford learned to fly in 1915 at the London Provincial School in Hendon and began his military career in 1916. He was initially posted to No. 3 Naval Squadron RNAS flying a Sopwith Pup and achieved his first aerial victory in March of 1917. In January 1918 he transferred to the Royal Air Force [RAF] No. 203 Squadron and ended the war with 29 confirmed aerial victories. During World War II he was appointed as a flight lieutenant and was promoted to squadron leader. Listed for auction is a picture postcard signed by Leonard Henry Rochford. The photograph is a World War 1 image and the autograph is signed '' L.H Rockford 3 Naval/ 203 Squadron Captain Squadron RAF'' in blue pen. The image measures 5.50 x 4.00 inches and is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, rare and will be a desirable addition to any World War I collection.
