HISTORY

Designed and made in Theirs, Frace, the Douk-Douk has been manufactured by the Cognet family since 1929. The word Douk-Douk comes from the name of the Melanesian God of Doom and Chaos, and has been the iconic logo since the beginning. The knife was a popular choice as an everyday tool, slicing cheese, cutting rope and skinning sheep. However, the Douk-Douk became the favoured blade by Algerian Rebels who terrorised fellow countrymen and French colonists during the mid 20th century.

It's construction hasn't changed much since its birth, with 2 rivets, high-carbon steel blade, folded metal handle, back spring and bail. This makes for a simple yet robust design that is easy to sharpen and can tackle many day-to-day tasks.

Other engravings were developed to cater for different markets around the world. The El Baraka, featuring a Tuareg Cross of Agadez was developed to replace the Melanesian Spirit-God as reproducing human like figures on blades was sacrilage in Muslim nations. The Tiki, featuring a more positive Tiki Idol, was marketed for polynesian nations. And The Squirrel, with its handle engraved with a squirrel climbing a branch, fitted with a spear point blade, was designed for the French and French-Canadian audience.

Today, the Douk-Douk has become a popular tool favoured for its durability and reliability as a stylish choice of pocket knife.
