One of a number of late 19thC auction posters I am selling related to Whitby and the surrounding area. Relating to upcoming live auctions of local land, dwellings and Steamship shares and other interesting adverts. Very interesting if you are into such items as they may well have printed a lot of them but not many will survive as they would have become the " open fire lighters " within days of the auctions being held. Great for local social history groups or for anyone related to the named people on the posters.

This poster is advertising the auction of a desirable cottage and land in Ugthorpe near Whitby, which was to be auctioned at THE BLACK BULL INN at Ugthorpe and Mr T. Underwood was the keeper.

Interesting the dwelling house and land situated in Ugthorpe and occupied by Mr Dennis Hart. The premises have a 999 year lease which started in 1695.

Printed by John Hudson, Whitby.

This poster has been folded and sent through the post to T. Underwood at the Black Bull Inn, Ugthorpe with a half penny stamp and frank mark dated May 15th 1881 and another oval inked frank mark stamp that reads 875. There is an inked price on the back as well of £1250 which could well be the price it sold for.

Again a really fabulous poster if you now own or live in the said property.

In collectable condition with normal signs of age and use wear.

The poster has been folded and there is some wear and tear on the edges. There are a couple of small holes ripped into the poster. There are some foxing marks.

Please see pictures for more details and visual confirmation of condition.

The posters will be sent to you folded along the old creases and sent in stiff backed envelopes or rolled in tubes depending on how best they will go on the day.

It measures approx. 20 inches x 15 inches.

My stock ref... in large poster folder.
