USA Scott #11 stamp tied by July 2(6?) Laurel Hill, Louisiana cds on cover sent with August 11th White Sulphur Springs, Virginia cds and manuscript 'Rec'd Aug. 12th 1856 at top which also ties stamp. Addressed to William B. Hamilton Esq. (William Bellhaven Hamilton 1832-1913 Hamilton family papers containing a letter regarding William B travels to Virginia can be found at https://www.lib.lsu.edu/sites/default/files/sc/findaid/1209hamilton.pdf)

There is a light pencil line through 'White Sulphur' and in same light manuscript pencil at bottom is (Aluren SP ? - hard to make out, the cover was possibly locally forwarded) Hellbock gives Burner's White (Sulphur) Springs 1855-1857 Scarcity 8 Shenandoah County. (There are other possibilities and research on the back gives Greenbrier County 1810-present, however this is in West Virginia and neither the postmark nor address indicates such - Forte lists Lebanon White Sulphur Springs 1848-1866 - Helbock gives this P.O. as 1848-1872 Scarcity 7.) Laurel Hill 1826 / 1945  Scarcity 1 Feliciane County.

Sent 1856, opened roughly with tearing to backflap, otherwise light general wear & toning. Fine condition.
