Stem Size: Bike Stems can have 2 Different Stem Diameters that insert into your 1" Threaded Fork Tube and Top Nut. The Story Goes, Forks for the Most part " Vintage up through 1965 and New" have a 22.2mm or 7/8" openings for Stems of that Diameter. In 1966 Schwinn decided that the Fork tube needed to be stronger and thickened the fork tube wall, since it was still 1" threaded on the out side, the inside "Inner Diameter" got smaller. Thus Vintage Schwinn Stems from 1966 to th 1980s and Most all Old School BMX had a 21.1mm or 13/16" Diameter to fit Fork openings and top nuts of that diameter. All Stems in the Auction use traditional 7/8" handle bars with a 1" or 25.4mm raised center. The used of a 7/8" or 22.2mm center handle bar with a shim is Unwise and Unsafe.
22.2mm or 7/8" ( Bigger size ) is Common to Lowrider & Cruiser Springer Forks, Straight, Bent, or Twisted. Common to most all New 1" Threaded Forks made now days. 22.2mm or 7/8" is used on Vintage Schwinn forks from the early 1900's to 1965, This size is used on New China made Schwinn's made after 2000 People Like to call them Vintage but they are Retro at Best. The 7/8" or 22.2mm size is more common to most Early Vintage Bikes and New Bikes, New Forks, and Lowrider Springer Forks. " Always Measure to Be Sure " Your Old Stem may have size markings.

Not for Vintage Stingray forks from 1964 and 1965. We Like these stems but feel they are not as strong as Original Vintage Schwinn Cast Stems. Most of the Lowrider industry is for show and I am afraid the use on larger bikes with 26" wheels with Heavier Riders like 200+ in combination with Large Ape hangers Handle bars is not very wise or safe.
