Besides exhibiting jewelleryat the 1851 Great Exhibition, John Brogden won awards at variousexhibitions in Paris and London from the 1850s to the 1870s. His designswere inspired by archaeological and Renaissance objects and he enjoyed royalpatronage. ( wikipedia ). Probably ceasing to work under his name this veryyear of 1880.
This solid silver work of artwas first prize to Captain John Mackie for winning the Prince Arthur Cup just 8years after the inception of the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club. It has theoriginal leather bound, velvet lined case it near mint condition,
