Mid-century modern Italian desk lamp

  • Large, double cone, multi-directional desk lamp
  • Dates from 1950s/60s
  • Teak and brass stem with metal shade and base
  • Purchased in Milan about 10 years ago. Unknown brand or designer, but has elements of the work of Gio Ponti for Laurel during this period (particularly the fluted stems at the end of the shades)
  • Stunning statement piece.

Condition
  • Good overall condition
  • Fully working, but not currently PAT tested (advisable to get old lamps checked).
  • The main brass stem isn't 100% vertical (very slight bend)
  • The teak accents on the stem and shades have some small drying-out cracks
  • The shades are made from a soft metal. As such they have picked up a few, small dents/creases. One shade in particular (see pic 11 and 12 as examples). The imperfections do not detract from the overall impact the lamp makes.
  • Fitted with new black flex wire and a grey felt base cover
  • The operation of the lamp is rather unique. Both shades have their own switch (see pic 10). To turn on, simply turn the switch clockwise until it clicks twice. Repeat this clockwise action, to turn off.

Meaurements (approx)
  • Overall height - 79cm
  • Base diameter - 20cm
  • Height of each shade (including wood) - 37cm
  • Shade diameter (at widest point) - 15cm
  • Shade diameter at opening 11cm
