This is a beautiful 2008 hardcover edition of Charles Darwin's "The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex." When Mr. Darwin published "On the Origin of Species" in 1859, he considered the presentation of his theory of evolution to be sufficiently controversial without applying it, in that book, to humans. As Richard Dawkins (Oxford University, author of "The Selfish Gene") notes, in his Introduction to this book, "Humanity is the missing guest at the feast of The Origin of Species."  Mr. Darwin finally applied evolutionary theory to humanity in "The Descent of Man," first published in 1871 (by this time Thomas Henry Huxley had already published "Man's Place in Nature," in 1863, beating Mr. Darwin to the punch). This 2008 edition, published by the UK-based Folio Society, of "The Descent of Man" follows Mr. Darwin's second edition, published in 1877, in which he made corrections to his original text and responded to critical reviews. This book includes a slipcase (please refer to the photos). Photos are provided of the table of contents.
