#SP Bf109-E7 (Adolf Galland) or (MESSERSCHMITT Me109 E-4)

Free shipping for additional purchase, no matter how many you get (until policy change)

A Battle of Britain era German Messerchmitt Bf109 E-7 (Adolf Galland) with all grey / dark green splinter pattern. The model comes fully pre-painted including German insignia as shown on the photographs. It is fabulously rare for collectors, this first series of Bandai models are ideal for wargaming as they carry no squadron insignia or markings, they carry the common insignia, and you can further apply any marking to make you dream squardron, but even without customization, they already look GREAT!

The parts come fully pre-painted on mini-sprues, requiring only elementary modelling skills for assembly. The design of the model supposed that no glue is needed but I recommend the use of some glue will help and make it easier and final. The pilot and framing on the canopy are the only elements of the model that are unpainted. Painting the canopy frame before assembly is a simple matter and although not essential, improves the finished overall appearance. The model comes with the undercarriage in the lowered position. With light sanding, the undercarriage struts can be removed to allow a wheels up display. All models come with a standard Bandai wire-&-cradle type flying display stand

I think it is a very fun family exercise to work with kids, girl friend or wife!

    History:

The Bf 109 was the backbone of the Luftwaffe fighter force in World War II, although it began to be partially replaced by the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 from 1941. The Bf 109 was the most successful fighter of World War II, shooting down more aircraft than any of its contemporaries. Originally conceived as an interceptor, it was later developed to fulfill multiple tasks, serving as bomber escort, fighter bomber, day-, night- all-weather fighter, bomber destroyer, ground-attack aircraft, and as reconnaissance aircraft. Although the Bf 109 had weaknesses, including short range and challenging take off and landing characteristics, it stayed competitive with Allied fighter aircraft until the end of the war. The Bf 109 was flown by the three top-scoring fighter aces of World War II: Erich Hartmann, the top scoring fighter pilot of all time claiming 352 victories, Gerhard Barkhorn with 301 victories, and Gther Rall claiming 275 victories. All of them flew with Jagdgeschwader 52, a unit which exclusively flew the Bf 109 and was credited with over 10,000 victories, chiefly on the Eastern Front. Hans-Joachim Marseille, the highest scoring German ace in the North African Campaign, also claimed all of his 158 victories flying the Bf 109, against Western Allied pilots.

Adolf "Dolfo" Joseph Ferdinand Galland (19 March 1912 9 February 1996) was a World War II German fighter pilot and commander of Germany's fighter force (General der Jagdflieger) from 1941 to 1945. Galland joined the Luftwaffe in 1933, and despite suffering injuries, including a damaged eye, in two crashes, he continued his military career. In 1937 he was one of 20,000 German military personnel to see action in the Condor Legion, providing Galland with valuable combat experience. Galland transferred to a fighter unit in 1940 and quickly reached Ace status during the Battle of France. In November 1941, with his score standing at 94 Galland became General der Jagdflieger at the age of 29. Galland continued to test fly many types of German aircraft, occasionally flying combat missions when he could. In January 1945, Galland, along with other Luftwaffe officers, was sent back to operational units after questioning the competence of Hermann G?ring. Galland surrendered to United States Army forces in May 1945. He claimed a total of 104 victories in 705 missions and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz) with oak leaves, swords and diamonds, one of only 27 recipients of the highest German military decoration. His victory claims were all against the Western Allies.
