Senna plants are small shrubs grown in Somalia, the Arabian Peninsula and near the Nile River, and their trade names are Alexandrian senna, Egypt leaves or Alexandria leaves.
Alexandria leaves or pods come from the senna plant and have been used as a decoction since ancient times, mainly for their laxative effect.
