Photographed at Jas. Sword, Studios, Gateshead & West Stanley. At some point Jas Sword had a studio at Chester-le-Street and at Front Street, Stanley. He died at Long Eaton in 1931.

Postally unused but addressed to Mrs. Clarke, 40 Clifford Terrace, Crawcrook, Ryton-on-Tyne, from Mary Tulip. She was actually Jane Clark, or maybe Clarke, aged 52 in the 1911 Census, living with her miner husband John, three sons including two miners aged 23 and 16, two daughters and a miner lodger. She was born at Whitehaven, latterly lived in Workington and Carlisle, had a son late 1878, in domestic service early 1879. Married 1881, two children then widowed 1884. Married John Clark 1890, living at Talkin, Hayton in 1891 with him (here Clarke) and four children from past relationships. Had another four children before being at Clifford Terrace in 1901. She died in 1932.

There was a Mary Tulip living locally at Clara Vale in 1901 and by 1911 was a dressmaker at Olga Street (now Olga Terrace), Rowlands Gill. She was at Mordue Terrace, Stanley in 1939, a single dressmaker aged 49. However there were other Mary Tulips in the Durham area.

Moderate to fair condition, some creasing.
