BESCHREIBUNG
Altkolorierte und sehr bedeutende Kupferstichkarte von Virginia, Maryland und der Chesapeake Region.
Die Karte ist eine Ableitung von Kapitän John Smiths Karte von 1612, die als erste die Bucht und ihre Nebenflüsse mit jeder Genauigkeit darstellte. Sie gilt als die wichtigste und detaillierteste Karte von Virginia in der ersten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts sowie der Chesapeake Region bis heute.
Die Karte mit Darstellung einer indischen Figur und Powhatan ("Vater von Pocahontas"), den großen indischen Häuptling auf seinem Thron sitzend und von seinen Untertanen umgeben. Powhatan war der mächtige Herrscher von etwa dreißig Algonquian Stämmen in der Region, die stärkste Gruppe von Indianern an der Atlantikküste. Er soll vierzig Leibwächter und 100 Frauen gehabt haben.
Rechts mit großem Wappen der britischen Kolonialherrscher.
Mittig oben mit Titelkartusche, unten verzierte Meilenanzeigerkartusche mit Verlegerangabe.
Die Karte stammt aus dem Atlas „Abbildung der gantzen Welt ..." von Gerard Mercator und Jodocus Hondius. Rückseitig deutscher Text.

Blatt: 54,5 x 45 cm; Platte: 49,5 x 39 cm
ZUSTAND
In guter restaurierter Erhaltung. Kräftiger Druck und festes Bütten mit Wasserzeichen. Im Falz sowie im oberen und unteren Rand restauriert (besser im Gegenlicht sichtbar). Im Rand wenig braunfleckig, schwacher Braunfleck im Kartenbild. Sehr dekorativ und schönes Altkolorit.

Hiermit wird die einwandfreie Herkunft der vorliegenden Karte bestätigt.
Die Karte ist zum Zeitpunkt des Verkaufs frei von Rechten Dritter.

DESCRIPTION
Oldcoloured and one of the most important maps of Virginia, Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay Region.
The map is a derivative of Captain John Smith's map of 1612, which was the first to portray the bay and its tributaries with every accuracy. It is considered to be the most important and detailed map of Virginia in the first half of the 17th century as well as the Chesapeake region to this day.
The map depicting an Indian figure and Powhatan ("Father of Pocahontas"), the great Indian chief sitting on his throne and surrounded by his subjects. Powhatan was the mighty ruler of about thirty Algonquian tribes in the region, the strongest group of Indians on the Atlantic coast. He is said to have forty bodyguards and 100 women.

MEASUREMENTS
Leaf: 54,5 x 45 cm; Plate: 49,5 x 39 cm.
CONDITION
In good restored condition. Restored centerfold and partly restored in the upper and lower margin (better visible against the light). Some brownstained in the margin. Slightly brown stain in the map.
Strong print and strong handmade paper with watermark. Very decorative and nice oldcolouring.
CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE
We confirm the legal acquisition and the perfect origin of this map.
CUSTOMS PROVISIONS
According to current laws, we are obliged to apply for a shipment to countries outside the EU from a purchase price of 1,000 EURO issuing customs documents.
The service for the customs documents costs 55 € and this additional fee has to be paid by the buyer.
Unfortunately we are not able to include this obligatory fee in the ebay system automatically.
The processing time of the customs authorities may last 2-3 days to complete.
