Introduction
Turmeric is a tropical perennial plant of the same family as ginger, endemic to India and cultivated worldwide.
It grows to a height of about three feet (one meter) and has lanceolate leaves on alternate sides of the stem.
At the base of the stem is a rhizome resembling a ginger.
Yellow is common in the southern part of India and is the root of a plant called Curcuma longa.
Madras yellow is best when a bright yellow color is needed and only a very mild flavor.
It is widely used in cooking and gives Indian curries its flavor and yellow color.
Also known as yellow root powder (Curcuma longa)
Curcuma longa, Curcuma, Gauri, Haldi, Indian Saffron and You Jin.
Yellow root powder has been used as a medicine and culinary spice throughout Asia for thousands of years.
It is one of the most powerful, anti-inflammatory foods on earth.
Yellow is the premium, non-GMO, non-irradiating type of yellow in India with a rich golden color.
Use it sparingly in your cooking for maximum flavor, color and nutrition.
You can add it to smoothies and shakes or make the famous (and healthy) "Golden Milk" drink recipe.
