War leaves, and the wounds of war on people and life are easy to leave. Robert Rossini's German zero is one of the representative works of new realism. It is one of Rossini's "postwar Trilogy" (the other two are "Rome: an undefended city" and "the flames of war"). The German zero further reveals the cruelty of war through the story of a child's "killing his father". The film reflects on the disasters brought to many countries after the Second World War, It expresses people's disgust with war. Some long scenes are meaningful. Through those haunting pictures and unforgettable performances of ordinary citizens (non professional actors), Rossini shows the harm caused by fascism brainwashing the whole generation.
The film mainly tells about the disaster brought by the war to the people. The war not only plunged the people into hunger and poverty, but also deformed the psychology of children. The protagonist in the film is a child who poisons his bedridden father with heart disease because he thinks his father is useless to society. Afterwards, he committed suicide because of his anxiety. On the surface, the film blames the child's psychology of killing his father and committing suicide on a teacher's educational mistakes. In fact, it exposes German Nazism and believes that they are the root of all these evils.
