Chios mastic is the natural resin produced by the mastic tree and is the most typical and traditional product of Chios.

Mastic only bears fruit in one part of the planet (in the southern part of Chios). No research has ever been able to prove the cause of this phenomenon.

Mastiha gum, Masticha, mastica, mastix or mastixa. Whatever you call it, mastic gum is unique in the world!
Real mastic is only produced in the south part of Chios Island. It comes from the mastic tree, without any industrial intervention. Natural gum Masticha is hand cleaned piece by piece. It is rare and unique.Chios gum mastic (Mastiha) has a protected designation of origin.

 1.To chew natural Chios mastic as chewing gum: 
  •  Pick a small piece of mastic (or break half a large one) and chew it.
  •  If it is soft, supplement the amount you will chew with a harder one.
  •  If the original piece is hard, choose a softer one to complete the required amount you want to chew. 
  • Keep in mind that mastic after a while of chewing softens as it is warmed by the temperature of the mouth.
2.To use natural mastic:
  • You can grind natural mastic into powder or buy ready-made ground mastic into powder.
  • If you want to rub your own mastic, prefer fine mastic (small pieces of mastic).
  • Put it in the freezer for a few hours and then - while it's still frozen - put a small amount (50-100gr) of mastic in a blender to make it powder.
  • Alternatively, for very small amounts (eg one or two doses) you can also use a mortar to break the mastic into small pieces.
3.Swallowing mastic helps:
Stomachache, heartburn / upset stomach, Increases the body's natural defenses and soothes stomach pain.
