Condition: good vintage condition with light surface wear. Other: 'Ruth Tears was born in Detroit Michigan. She studied art at Southern Methodist University, Dallas; at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts School with Perry Nichols, Otis Dozier, Frederic Taubes and Emily Guthrie Smith. She was a member of the Texas Printmakers society and the Texas Fine Arts Association. Her work was widely exhibited across the state including at the Dallas Allied Arts Exhibition; the Texas General/Texas Painting and Sculpture Exhibition in 1954. She showed at the Texas Fine Arts Association; the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe; Southern Prints and Drawings Exhibition; Dallas Museum of Contemporary Arts; and numerous galleries in Dallas, Fort Worth, Midland, Houston, and Longview to name a few. Her work can currently be found in the collection of the Longview Museum of Fine Arts. Tears Lost her leg after an automobile accident in 1940. She began her art career as a lettering artists. During WWII, she was a topographic draftswoman for the U.S. Army Map Service. Tears was awarded first prize in the Texas Fabric Design contest in 1951. She taught art at the Park Cites, YMCA, the Dallas College of Southern Methodist University, the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts School, and The Creative Arts Center, Dallas. Tears was the directory of the Black Tulip Gallery in 1963. She taught in regional art workshops.
