Central Heating Convector Radiators - Explained!

All Radiators (Convector's, Column and Designer) heat your room using Convective Heat. This is the process of Hot air rising within your room and pushing the cooler air towards the bottom of the room and thus coming into contact with the radiator. The Convector Radiator is designed to have “Fins” (Zig-Zag metal strips) which create a larger surface for the air to come into contact with. Hot water is circulated through a tube within the Convector which is surrounded by these fins. As with the other Radiators the hot air in the room rises and the cooler air is attracted to the Radiator. You should consider a Convector Radiators if: you are looking for a heating appliance that can heat the room quicker that Designer and Column Radiators. Or if you have limited room, and want to purchase a small Radiator without losing out on all of the heat benefits of a larger Radiator. Central heating Radiators/Towel Rails are heated using your central heating system. The most important part of this system - for your Radiator/Towel Rail - is the boiler, and you most likely have one in your kitchen or bathroom. This boiler heats water, which is then circulated through the pipes behind your walls or under the floor to heat all of the radiators in your home or office.

Single and Double Panel - Explained!

If you purchase a Double Panel Radiator the panel that appears at the front of the radiator (what you can see in most of our images) will also be at the back of the radiator facing the wall. Whereas, a Single Panel Radiator only has one panel which faces away from the wall. Because the design puts one panel behind the other, the height and width of the radiator will stay the same whether you choose single or double panel. Compared to the Single Panel options, the Double Panel’s will produce more heat because they have more surface area to warm the air in the room. You should bear in mind that this extra heat from a Double Panel will come at a higher cost. When browsing the Convector Radiators, you may see “Double Panel Double Convector”, this means that as well as having a panel on the front and back of the radiator, there is also an extra Fin (for explanation of what a Fin is, please see Convector Radiators Section) attached to the back panel. “Double Panel Single Convector” means that the radiator has both a front and back panel, but only one Fin attached to the front panel.

Delivery & Returns

Our warehouse team take great care packaging every item to ensure safe shipment to you. We charge a shipping fee only to cover our costs of materials and labour. Once your order has been processed and we have received cleared payment, your item will be dispatched as soon as possible. Please allow extra time if you are paying by cheque.

Preparation for Delivery, Shipping Charges and Delivery Dates.

All our goods are specially prepared for delivery. For larger items, this means that we construct a supported pallet to ensure a safe delivery. On smaller items, care is taken to ensure that the finished product is securely wrapped for courier delivery or Royal Mail shipping.

...Or you can collect from us

You may complete the order using the 'collection/non-delivery' option and arrange your own shipping of the goods (except where a listing specifically excludes collections), however we would advise you that in the event of damage during transit, you would need to claim from your own courier, which, from our previous experience can be a lengthy process. You would then need to arrange a replacement product to be re-shipped to you at your own expense. It is for this reason that we recommend you use our shipping contract.

Return Shipping

Any shipping charges to return goods to ourselves (excluding for damaged or faulty goods) will be the responsibility of the buyer. This means that if you change your mind about your products once they have been delivered, you will not receive a refund for the completed shipping contract.

Delivery Timescales

Palleted goods can take up to 7 working days to be delivered. When your goods arrive at your local pallet depot, you will receive a call to confirm a convenient time for your delivery. This means that you do not have to wait in until your goods arrive. Courier goods usually take 1-2 working day to be delivered, with the exception of certain areas of the UK such as the 'highlands and islands' of Scotland and other, difficult-to-reach locations. If you are not in when a delivery is attempted, an 'attempted delivery card' will be left at your home with a contact number for your local courier depot. Please contact them to arrange a suitable re-delivery date. Smaller, lower-value goods are shipped by Royal Mail's first class post, however these items cannot be tracked through to delivery point. Please allow around 3 days for delivery, in case there is a postal delay. No guarantees are offered for delivery timescales (this would significantly increase the shipping prices).

We therefore respectfully ask that you do not arrange for a plumber or other tradesperson to fit your goods until you have received and checked your order. We cannot be held responsible for wasted tradesperson visits and charges incurred as a result.

If, for any reason, your goods will take longer than 30 days to be delivered to you, we will notify you by e-mail. In the rare event of delayed delivery (in excess of 30 days) you have the choice to either wait for the goods to be delivered, or request a complete refund. Requests for refunds must be made using the eBay system to e-mail us.

Choosing the right accessories for your new Radiator or Towel Rail

Valves Explained

The type of valves that you need will depend on the configuration of your pipework.

If the towel rail / radiator has connections at the bottom:

You will need either angled or straight valves. Angled if your pipes are coming from the wall as this will provide a 90 degree angle up into the bottom of the towel rail / radiator, straight if your pipes are coming from the floor and just need to go straight up into the bottom of the towel rail / radiator.

If the towel rail / radiator has connections at the sides:

You will need either angled or corner valves, angled if your pipes are coming from the floor as this will provide a 90 degree angle into the side of the radiator. Corner Valves if your pipes are coming from the wall this will also give a 90 degree angle into the side of the radiator however is the neatest solution with this type of configuration.

BTUs & Watts Explained

What is a Watt?

Watts are our main unit of energy/power in the UK, commonly associated with lightbulbs and Home Energy performance certificates (EPCs).

What is a BTU?

BTUs are the unit of measurement used to portray a radiators heat output and a rooms heating requirement. 1 Watt is equal to 3.41 BTUs.

Why are they important?

We buy radiators to heat our homes, right? So, we need a way of knowing if a radiator is powerful enough to heat the room that we are shopping for - Watts and BTUs provide us with a value that makes its easier to compare radiators and ultimately choose the right one for our heating requirement.

Delta Ratings Explained

What is a Delta (Δ) Rating?

When discussing heat outputs, the Delta rating is the difference between the temperature of the water inside the heating system and the desired temperature of the room.

What does the value represent?

In simple terms, this value is about heat loss. Heating a room only works, if the radiator output exceeds the heat loss of the room.

We use this calculation to make it easy to choose a radiator that will have a heat output that exceeds the heat loss of the room when connected to your heating system type.

What Delta Rating should I use?

Unless you have a low temperature system like a heat pump, then please look at the Delta 50 heat outputs.
