BARCLAYS LEAGUE 2ND DIVISION PLAY-OFF

Sunday 2nd June saw the third and final

play-off match in the Barclays League as

Notts County and Brighton & Hove

Albion battled it out for a place in the

first division.

With everything to play for Notts County turned in the

performance of a lifetime to carry away the honours on the

day of reckoning.

With a 29th minute goal from England Under 21 striker

Tommy Johnson, Notts County then consolidated their lead

with a second goal fiom Johnson some 30 minutes later.

County proceeded to wrap things up in the 7lst minute

when Mark Draper's free kick passed right across the goal

and was bundled in by Regis.

Brighton however refused to give up the match and

pulled back some shreds of dignity in the last minutes of

the match when Byrne

wriggled through County's

defence and Wilkins slot-

ted home his low cross at

close range. But even

Brighton's last minute

rally could not take the

shine off the fairy tale

return of Notts County to

the first division.
