Prachtvoll gestaltetes Schwerzglas bzw. Stopfglas, ein sogenanntes "Verre á farce"

Frankreich, um 1680

Äußerst seltenes prunkvoll gestaltetes „Verre à farce“ aus der Zeit des Sonnenkönigs (Ludwig XIV.), der von 1643-1715 residierte. Derartige Verlustierungen, die sich u.a. auch auf Trinkgefäße erstreckt haben, waren typisch an seinem Hofe. 

Auf einem Scheibenfuß mit Abriss gelagerter bauchiger Trinkkrug mit aufgesetzten, sich am Boden verlierenden Girlandenfaden. Der mit reichen schuppenförmigen Applikationen verzierte Henkel ist innen hohl und reicht außen über den Gefäßrand bis zum inneren Boden des Kruges.

Am äußeren Ende des Griffes befindet sich fast in Bodennähe ein Mundstück. Da die eigentliche Trinköffnung des Gefäßes mit einem Greiftatzen ähnlichen Verzierungsausläufern des Griffes versperrt ist, kann nur über das Mundstück kontrolliert getrunken werden.

Dazu muss man sich jedoch mit dem Kinn unter die Höhe des Standfußes begeben und gleichzeitig den Wein (ähnlich wie bei einem Weinballon) ansaugen, was ein äußerst groteskes Bild beim Trinken des Weines ergeben und zur Belustigung der Hofgesellschaft beigetragen haben dürfte.

Äußerst seltenes und museales Glas aus der Zeit des Sonnenkönigs.

Höhe: 21 cm; Durchmesser Wandung: 10 cm; Durchmesser Fuß: 7,5 cm; Breite: 15,5 cm.

ZUSTAND

Sehr gute Erhaltung. Oben an der Blüte ein Blatt verlustig. Keine Chips oder Beschädigungen.

Magnificently designed joke glass / darning glass, a so-called "verre à farce".

DESCRIPTION

Extremely rare splendidly designed "Verre à farce" from the time of the Sun King (Louis XIV), who resided from 1643-1715.

Losses of this kind, which included drinking vessels, were typical at his court. 

A bulbous drinking jug supported on a disc foot with a break-off, with an attached garland thread that loses itself at the bottom.

The handle, decorated with rich scale-like appliqués, is hollow on the inside and extends outside over the rim of the vessel to the inner bottom of the jug. At the outer end of the handle there is a mouthpiece almost near the bottom.

Since the actual drinking opening of the jar is blocked by the handle's decorative spurs, which are similar to a griffin's paw, it is only possible to drink in a controlled manner through the mouthpiece.

To do this, however, one must place one's chin below the height of the stand and at the same time suck in the wine (similar to a wine balloon), which produces an extremely grotesque image when drinking the wine and is likely to contribute to the amusement of court society.

Extremely rare and museum-quality glass from the time of the Sun King.

Very good condition. One leaf lost at the top of the flower. No chips or damage.
