Mercury Silver Dimes - Background & Design:
Weinman’s design featured on the obverse a young woman wearing a cap with wings on her head. On the reverse the dime had a bundle of sticks with an axe blade all tied together with straps, making the ancient symbol of a fasces, which was surrounded by an olive branch.
Mercury Dime Grading Scale & Guidelines:
As understood and in relation to condition notes and guidelines, a mercury dime in an "Average Circulated" condition is typically heavily worn, the letters and design may be barely legible, but they are discernable. Some of the devices, letting, legends, and date may be worn smooth, but the date is readable. Portions of the rim could be so worn that it blends into the lettering. If the coin possesses a mintmark, it will also be identifiable. While this is the generic understanding of the grade, we do our best to provide each and every customer a top-notch coin within the grading bracket to ensure all customers are happy and satisfied.
Obverse: Only the major details are visible in outline form only. The date and legends are worn smooth but readable. The tops of the letters in LIBERTY may be beginning to merge with the rim.
Reverse: The entire design could be mostly worn away. The letters around the rim of the coin have merged well into the rim. The fasces may just be an outline and there may be very few details on the olive branches. The rim could be almost completely worn away.
