Mercury Silver Dimes - Background & Design:

Weinman’s design featured on the obverse a young woman wearing a cap with wings on her head. On the reverse the dime had a bundle of sticks with an axe blade all tied together with straps, making the ancient symbol of a fasces, which was surrounded by an olive branch.

Mercury Dime Grading Scale & Guidelines:

As understood and in relation to condition notes and guidelines, a mercury dime in "Very Good" condition is typically well-worn. The design is clear and the major elements are mostly defined but are flat and lacking in detail. The overall appearance of the coin has some detail but may mostly be worn off and flat.

Obverse: Lady Liberty's head may be weak, and some principal design details are outlined, for example, portions of the wing. The majority of the letters in the word, "LIBERTY", are mostly separate from the rim.

Reverse: The majority of the letters around the rim are mostly separated from the rim. The majority of the rim is complete although it may be weak in some areas. Some vertical lines in the rods on the fasces are beginning to show.
