Signed King Philip II; Oct. 2, 1576; Framed; Spanish Text; Frame w15"xh17.3"; Document w8.6"xh12.3"; Very Rare!

SUMMARY:

  • Signed Phillip II manuscript document dated October 2, 1576. Counter signed by King's secretary, Antonio de Erasso. Spanish text throughout. Letter adhered to another sheet of paper; left edge of backing paper is folded over the left edge covering a small amount of text. Evidence of previous worming and discoloration to left edge not effecting text of the letter. Framed in red wood with gilt, floating between two panes of glass.

  • Philip II (21 May 1527 – 13 September 1598), also known as Philip the Prudent, was King of Spain from 1556, King of Portugal from 1580, and King of Naples and Sicily from 1554 until his death in 1598. He was also jure uxoris King of England and Ireland from his marriage to Queen Mary I in 1554 until her death in 1558. He was also Duke of Milan from 1540. From 1555, he was Lord of the Seventeen Provinces of the Netherlands.

  • Signed letter for the Hearing of the Spanish Island, ordering it to comply with the requests of the Regent of the Canary Islands in relation to the traffic of slaves that enter the island under false records from Licenciado Nava.
