Bridgeport, Alabama was a strategic location on the Tennessee River, protecting the Nashville & Cumberland Railroad during the Civil War & site of constant conflict as Union garrisons tried to protect the train trestles, part of US Grant's "Cracker Line during the Chattanooga & Atlanta Campaign. An  original Civil War Union Army Ordnance Receipt issued at "Dry Trestle, Tenn" ( on the east side of the River between Bridgeport & Nickajack Cave, Alabama  )  for Springfield & Enfield Rifles, bayonet scabbards, cartridge boxes, etc,  for the 68th New York Infantry, sgd by LT Frank Sipperlius at Dry Trestle, Tennessee, June 13, 1864. 8 x 11" ptd/ink. Age spots, VG overall. The trestle area today is part of a popular & historic hiking route.
