Description

USA Scott #300 stamp tied by July 26, 1907 Bibo New Mexico Doane cancel (DPO 1895-1920 Scarcity 3 Valencia County) and also tied by faint San Francisco, California machine cancel receiver on postcard showing Holy Eagle - Wanble-Wakan. Todsen Type 1, R-4 scarcity rating. The six Bibo brothers settled in western Valencia in the 1880s. Ben Bibo opened a store and started a post office in 1895 serving a remote ranching region, now a part of modern Cibola County. From 1895 to 1920 this small, largely Hispanic community was known as Bibo, New Mexico. Today the settlement is known as Cebolletita, an older and currently preferred Toponym. No postmarks are known from the 1890s, the first canceller is apparently the Type 1 Doane 2/1 used from 1905 to 1910 and is the only known territorial postmark for Bibo, New Mexico.

Sent 1907, divided back with some writing to face, corner bumping/wear and toning. Fine condition.
