The DS series from Dalbello is a very impressive design.  Dalbello designers set out to engineer and shape a totally new ski boot from the ground up.  It had to offer the best possible performance when paired with modern skis, with an all day comfortable fit, but also with lighter weight, and to ski with maximum power and efficiency.  This DS AX 120 version offers a bit roomier fit in the toe box than other DS models, but with a nice snug, performance fit in the heel and instep area.  There is no other boot on the market that offers this combination of fit, and high performance at this price.  Not only is the DS AX 120 a great skiing and great fitting boot, but it is also a fantastic value.  And, this listing for the DS AX 120 even includes new Grip Walk soles, making the boot even more friendly to spend the day when heading to and from the lifts.

The bi-injected Power Cage shell design is the really big feature with the new DS series.  A very hard, very stiff PU frame is manufactured first, with a thinner, lighter weight material then injected around that frame to complete the shell structure.  The result is a very sculpted, lighter weight and slim design that transmits energy to the ski edges very efficiently.  On the lower part of the boot shell, textured striations make the DS very stiff torsionally, while still allowing the material to be thinner (and lighter).

Check out this list of features found in the Dalbello DS AX 120:

  • Power Cage shell construction is manufactured with a two step, bi-injection mold process.  Very stiff, very lightweight Poly Urethane frame is combined with a second injection of very lightweight, thinner plastic where stiffness is not necessary.  The result is a very powerful, very lightweight shell.
  • Flex Adjustment rear cuff bolts allow the boot to be adjusted for your personal flex preference.  This is the stiffest AX model Dalbello offers, but can be softened quite by removing flex bolts to convert to a softer range of flex if necessary.
  • InstaFit molded liner fits the inside shape of the shell very closely.  Less dead space between liner and shell means that the boot needs less break in to arrive at its final shape.  Bottom line, this is the best fitting Dalbello boot ever.  This liner can be heat molded, but it fits very, very well right out of the box.  It is a just a touch cushier inside than the liner found in the more expensive, stiffer DS and DS Asolo models.
  • Easy Entry with thin, flexible flaps in the lower shell over the top of the foot.  Also, neoprene lining on the tongue helps the foot slide in with less friction.
  • 102mm Last - This is the shell width than many skiers should be skiing in.  It offers great sensitivity and feel for the snow, but does not require stretching, grinding or cutting to allow enough room for all day comfort.  Many of us performance minded skiers are looking for a boot that skis well, but allows for some extra toe room and less pressure around the fore foot.  This boot fits very firmly, but still with room where you need it for all day comfort.  THIS IS NOT A BOOT FOR NARROW FEET (check out the DS and DS Asolo Elite models, which are quite a bit snugger).
  • Very wide Power Strap with heavy duty Velcro - Easy to adjust on the fly, and transmits power quickly to the front of the ski.  A substantial power strap is important on any high performance boot.
  • Micro adjustable aluminum buckles are very light weight, and allow the boot to be adjusted with the perfect amount of buckle tension.
  • 3D Grip Texture built into bottom of the lower shell has two advantages.  It helps improve traction when walking, but more importantly it stiffens the twisting (torsional) flex of the lower shell so that it transmits energy more efficiently without adding weight.
  • Removable velcro spoiler allows forward lean angle and size of leg fit adjusted very easily.

How does the DS 120 AX fit?  For a boot that is published at a 102mm last width, it is a very anatomical fit for average to above average width feet, and with quite a bit of toe room in the shell.  It is also a great choice for any skier who simply wants a little more room in their ski boot, but also wants a high performance model.  Many skiers will appreciate that this boot is 3mm longer in each shell size than the norm.  This gives some extra toe room that a lot of us are looking for.  Ski boots do not ski better just because our toes are hammered at the end of the shell.  It has the perfect blend of snugness for performance skiing, but is also very comfortable for most skiers.  Very easy to put on and take off.  Feels firm out of the box, but gets better and better after you've had it on for a few minutes.  Just like any ski boot, it's very important that the boot not be cold when tried on.  Can also be retrofitted with Alpine boot soles, in case you do not have Grip Walk compatible bindings!

This is a great, very cool new ski boot, and FREE SHIPPING is included!  How can you go wrong?  If you are ready to make the step up to a performance ski boot, the DS 120 AX should be on your list.  Call or email us with any questions.
