Background To Issue: For this year’s Collecting Month we return to the age of the dinosaurs, in particular the Cretaceous Period (145–66 million years ago), with four dinosaurs and one pterosaur (winged lizard). At this time, present-day Australia was joined to Antarctica, New Zealand and South America, forming the supercontinent Gondwana. The Australian part of Gondwana was located close to the South Pole, and had a cool, wet climate.
