EAS Embossed Christmas Postcard Antique Printed In Germany Angels Baby Jesus 2

This is an unused, unsigned antique postcard.

One angel is carrying a small Christmas Tree with candles and ornaments, clearly tying the Christmas theme to the birth of Christ and providing light in contrast to the dark stable. The Baby Jesus has beams of light radiating from His head. A crown of thorns is in the hand of the front angel, foreshadowing Christ's crucifixion. Roses lie on the ground and are scattered over the baby, which, along with the beautiful angels and the rising full moon, evokes underlying Victorian themes.

This card is an amazing antique work of art. Published pre-1917. Note "Porto Rico" is the spelling provided for Puerto Rico, and the card indicates a 1 cent stamp. Card was produced pre-1917.
