This is an antique large TABLE matchbox holder / vesta case.
It has a really nice repousse pattern on the top which is nicely detailed with faces, birds and foliage etc.

Two birds sat in the foliage at the top with two faces as well , then into the cartouche which has the Baron crown over the monogram initials in the middle. Then it has a face front on holding a swag of material and below 2 more human faces.

It has the initials EAN in which ever order they go in engraved in the centre under BARON crown - coronet.

So this belonged to BARON E.A.N. whoever that was,  nice bit of research for someone.

It is hallmarked for London 1894 with maker's mark WC. William Comyns & Sons.

Please see photographs provided for more details and visual confirmation of condition.
The thin ends are bent slightly and there are some dints in the surface of the silver. There are also some light surface scuffs on the plain back and sides.
There is an old label stuck to the back.

It measures approx. 74mm x 50mm x 29mm.
It weighs 46.2g.

Scale is usually an English 1 penny coin which is 20mm in diameter which is just short of 7/8ths of an inch in diameter, or a universal Coke can, and we all know how big those are.

If you see A/F = a/f in the title or description it means "as found" condition which may have scuffs, scratches and damage. In relation to all my listings it does not mean " about fine ". I have used A/F  for " as found " for 45 years.
